Diversity & Inclusion Committee

Mission Statement 
The mission of the IASA Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) Committee is to cultivate and foster a culture of awareness that promotes diversity and inclusion within the insurance industry and the IASA’s leadership and membership. This includes the goals of accepting, respecting and valuing differences of individuals of diverse race, color, ethnicity, culture, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, religion, nationality, age, and ability.






IASA Celebrates Black History Month | February 2021

Black History Month is an annual celebration of the many achievements and contributions of Black Americans. It acknowledges the integral role of African Americans in American history, and IASA will highlight Black insurance professionals' success stories each Monday in February. 

     


 
 
           Introducing Rachel Hairston | Vice President of Finance at McLaren Health Plan (MHP)

Rachel assumes the role of establishing, directing, evaluating and coordinating all of MHP’s financial operations related to developing and administering policy, short and long-range goals, strategic planning initiatives, internal and external reporting, regulatory communication and initiatives. 

Rachel joined MHP in 2012.  Prior to joining MHP, Rachel spent several years in accounting at an Intermediate School District as well as a part-time Professor teaching Accounting at Mott Community College.  She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and a Master of Business Administration from The University of Michigan-Flint.

           Introducing Robert Kilgore | Director of Financial Reporting and Reinsurance Accounting at Arch U.S. Mortgage Insurance
Robert Kilgore leads the accounting, reporting, and administration of the reinsurance activities for the Arch U.S. Mortgage Insurance entities.  Robert is also responsible for implementing the accounting and reporting requirements for new business development initiatives.  

Prior to joining Arch Mortgage Insurance Company in 2017, Robert spent nine years at Dixon Hughes Goodman LLP working within the Insurance Services Group.  He holds a B.S. in Accounting from North Carolina A&T State University, M.S. in Accounting from Michigan State University, and earned the Certified Public Accountant designation in North Carolina.

           Introducing Wanda Pritchett | Vice President of Operational Audit at Lincoln Financial Group
Wanda Pritchett is Vice President of Operational Audit. She oversees the development and execution of the annual risk-based audit plan for Lincoln’s four core business segments and corporate functions. She also contributes to the development and achievement of the Internal Audit strategic plan, which includes ensuring objectives are aligned with the corporate strategy.

Wanda joined Internal Audit with Jefferson Pilot (now Lincoln Financial Group) in 2003. Prior to joining Lincoln, Wanda spent four years in corporate banking and 
two years at Ernst & Young (EY). Wanda holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Louisiana State University, as well as a Master of Business Administration degree from Wake Forest University. Wanda has earned several designations to include Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Audit (CIA), Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and Fellow of Life Management Institute (FLMI). She is a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors and National Association of Black Accountants.  In addition to her professional accomplishments, Wanda is actively involved in Girls Scouts. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Greensboro Communities in Schools.

           Introducing Sonja Cheeks-Spann | Customer Service Manager at SageSure Insurance Managers

Sonja Cheeks-Spann is an insurance professional and leader in the industry with over 40 years of experience. Beginning her career in pension benefits at Provident Mutual, she spent sixteen years in that area of insurance, also working at GE Capital Assurance during that time. In 1998, Sonja joined Nationwide Insurance where she worked for over sixteen years in property and casualty insurance as the Sales Supervisor. She is currently the Customer Service Manager at SageSure Insurance Managers, a property insurance company, in Tallahassee, FL.

We Want to Hear from You! Take the Survey!
To meet the evolving insurance industry's workforce needs, a thorough understanding of factors affecting women and diverse professionals is required. IASA’s Diversity and Inclusion and Women in Leadership Committees have partnered to design a survey.  It examines the association between factors, including ethnicity, gender, race, sexual orientation, personal and professional satisfaction and challenges/ barriers. The results from this survey will be used to develop education and professional resources to support a more inclusive insurance workforce. The survey will be open from February 1st - March 26th and responses will be kept confidential.
