The Truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth!
More and more people are turning to social media as their primary source for news, choosing it over TV, newspaper or radio. Coincidentally, we have also seen an increase in “fake news”. While social media companies like Facebook have taken steps to curb fake news, it’s still making its way out there. Some countries are considering legislation to fine social media sites that allow fake news to be continue to be circulated.
How do you like me now?
Real-time streaming is exploding. Whether you watch live streaming videos of a baby giraffe being born or celebrities giving you a behind of the scenes view of their life, the use of real-time social media access is booming. YouTube, Twitter and Facebook have already launched these capabilities and Instagram is now testing their own live video option. This is a great way for companies to engage with their customers.
Pokémon Go was a smash in 2016. Everywhere you looked, people were walking around trying to capture Pokémon, find PokéStops and earn medals. Expect to see more in 2017. Facebook is already experimenting with augmented reality. It isn’t just for gaming. Augmented reality creates new opportunities for companies to connect with their customers by sharing experiences and not just information.
