eInterpreter: What was the first IASA Chapter event you attended and what inspired you to go?
Nikander: My first year at Mercury in 2008, which has been a great sponsor to our regional events, the company sends a dozen folks each year.

What is the biggest benefit of having access to insurance education locally to you and your company?
Nikander:Networking with peers and learning about the business beyond just our company to leverage new ideas and anticipate challenges..

 If money was no object....what would you love to do for a living?
Nikander: Cartoonist

eInterpreter: Do you have any hobbies that could affect your personal insurance premiums?
Nikander: Skiing
eInterpreter: Do you volunteer for any other organization other than IASA?  If so, which organization and why?
Nikander: Many, coaching baseball/softball, Scouts, and Board Trustee for Finlandia University.

eInterpreter: Besides family and friends, what 3 things could you NOT live without?
NikanderPurpose, peace and the world's beauty.
eInterpreter: How did you first get started in the insurance industry?
Nikander: Investment accountant with Fremont General twenty-five years ago.

eInterpreter: What would you say to a colleague, or even a peer at another company, who has never attended as IASA Chapter event about getting involved?
Nikander: I would say networking with industry peers can provide comradery and potential career benefits. 

eInterpreter: What is your current job and what aspect of your position do you find most rewarding?
Nikander: Investment manager… it’s always exciting

eInterpreter: So after a tough your release a good work out, a certain food, or something over ice?   
Nikander: Most likely all three!
