Cyber Risk Case Studies: A Scenario-Based Approach to Identifying and Mitigating

February 7, 2024 | 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. EST

Cybersecurity threats continue to expand in number and complexity, and finding an approach to managing them effectively is elusive. Organizations are struggling to (a) prioritize among the myriad cyber risks; (b) make a business case for recommended mitigation; and (c) draw a rigorous, defensible line in the sand limiting the scope of cyber risk management. In this session, we discuss how a value-based ERM approach uses deterministic scenarios and quantitative models to (a) sort out which cyber risk scenarios to focus on; (b) support mitigation decisions with robust risk-reward data; and (c) define a “cyber risk appetite” to contain the focus of cyber risk management to a manageable level. We will then share some case studies of companies successfully applying this approach to enhance their cyber risk management.

This event will offer the opportunity to earn 1 CPE credit and is free to members and $50 for Non-members.

How Good Are Your Risk Disclosures? A Comparative Analysis

March 14, 2024 | 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. Eastern

SEC-regulated companies are required to disclose their key risks in Section 1A of their annual 10K filings. But how good are these risk disclosures? In this session, we share some results of an in-depth research study analyzing and comparing the quality of several companies’ risk disclosures. We discuss the criteria that define the quality of risk disclosures and the characteristics within each criterion that differentiate between the best and worst disclosures. The analysis relies on the principles of value-based enterprise risk management, which is a synthesis of ERM and value-based management. We will reveal some results contrasting the best and worst risk disclosures (anonymous basis) showing how the quality of risk disclosures varies between companies.

This event will offer the opportunity to earn 1 CPE credit and is free to members and $50 for Non-members.
